Message From Park Scholarships Regarding COVID-19

NC State is reducing operations but remains open, limiting the number of students, faculty, and staff on campus. All courses will move to online instruction. Learn more at ncsu.edu/coronavirus.

Dear Park Scholarships community,

At NC State, we have been carefully tracking the spread of COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus. As you may know, yesterday the university announced the implementation of various actions, including working to move classes online and prohibiting events involving more than 100 people. More information on this decision can be found at ncsu.edu/coronavirus.

In accordance with the university’s recommendation to practice social distancing, several Park Scholarships events scheduled for this spring are canceled including Learning Lab I (March 27-28), Service Raleigh (April 4), the Elkan Lecture (April 7), and sPark (April 17-18). We will make every effort to reschedule events when it is safe and reasonable to do so. We anticipate moving the Elkan Lecture to Fall 2020, the Class of 2023’s Learning Lab I to Spring 2021, and sPark to April 2021. If you have registered for any of these events, expect additional communications.

Any PRK activities that were scheduled for March 18 will not be held on this date. We are making efforts to virtualize PRK activities through the end of the semester. We will email Park Scholars an update about these courses by the end of next week.

Park March Madness (March 25-April 6) and NC State Day of Giving (March 25) are currently scheduled to continue, but on-campus components will likely be modified. On-campus Day of Giving events specific to Park Scholarships are canceled.

The status of the Spring Social (April 24) and Senior Gala (May 7) are TBD. We will email information about these events at a later date.

The Park Scholarships staff are available and here to support you. Although some staff may be working remotely, they can meet virtually and will be in regular communication by email. At this time, email is the preferred method of communication.

These are significant steps and we regret the disappointment and disruption they will likely cause. We will continue to monitor the situation and email you with further updates. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we encourage all members of the Park Scholarships community to follow the best practices outlined by the CDC.

Sincerely,

Joy Tongsri
Interim Director
