Park Scholarships Hosts Class of 2017 Finalists
The Park Scholarships program at North Carolina State University named 105 Finalists for the Class of 2017.
Approximately 200 NC State alumni who comprise the Park Scholarships Selection Committee conducted interviews for 264 Semifinalists in early January. The Semifinalists were chosen from a record number of over 1,600 applicants.
Finalists will visit the NC State campus on February 22-23 to participate in Final Selection Activities at the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center. These activities will include individual interviews, a group discussion task, and panels with faculty and Park Scholars. Finalists and their guests will also attend a reception and dinner hosted by NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson.
The year’s Finalists include a United States National Chemistry Olympiad Finalist, NASA Women in STEM High School Aerospace Scholar, and a United State Senate Youth Program Delegate. Other members of this distinguished group have been named recipients of Department of State scholarships for Arabic study in Morocco and Mandarin in China, the President’s Volunteer Service Award, and the Durham Mayor’s Award. Finalists have taken a gap year to be a volunteer social worker in Germany, volunteered with the Singapore HIV/AIDS Patient Care Center, served as a youth camp counselor for landmine victims, had artwork displayed in Carnegie Hall, and built a company that donates its proceeds to animal advocacy groups.

The Park Scholarships are named for the late Roy H. Park ‘31, an NC State alumnus who created the charitable Park Foundation, dedicated to education, media, and the environment.
