Park Scholarships Finalists Announced
NC State University has named 105 Finalists for the Park Scholarships Class of 2015. These Finalists were selected following a review of more than 1,300 applications and interviews with a select group of Semifinalists in January.
Finalists include recipients of the Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award, United States Congress Gold Congressional Award, and United States Senate Youth Program Award; researchers in the areas of biochemistry and equine behavior; founders of organizations to protect the oceans and raise funds for the North Carolina Children’s Hospital; coordinators of projects to package 30,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now and gather donations to assist with Haitian relief efforts; and members of the North Carolina Teen Health Alliance and the North Carolina Youth Legislative Assembly.
“As we celebrate our 15th year, the Park Scholarships Selection Committee faced the challenging task of identifying these accomplished Finalists from our largest number of applicants to date,” says Eva Holcomb, Park Scholarships director. “With many noteworthy achievements to their credit, this group of Finalists represents tremendous potential in scholarship, leadership, character, and service, befitting the legacy of Roy Park’s generous spirit and dedication to excellence.”
Finalists will participate in Final Selection Activities on February 18-19 at the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center on the NC State Centennial Campus. The activities will include interviews, a group discussion task, and panels with Park Scholars and faculty, as well as a reception and dinner hosted by NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson.
